New Braunfels Traffic Citation Options

When you get a traffic ticket in New Braunfels, you have a few ways to respond. Each has different outcomes for your driving record. Know your choices before you pay anything.

Paying the fine in full is quick but enters a conviction. That goes to Texas DPS and can raise insurance rates. If you want to keep the ticket off your record, look at deferred disposition or defensive driving first.

Deferred disposition lets you plead guilty or no contest and then complete a probation period. If you meet all the terms and stay out of trouble, the case is dismissed without a conviction. You must request this before your appearance date and submit all required documents at the same time. The court will not start the process until everything is submitted together.

Defensive driving, also called a driving safety course, is available for eligible moving violations. Court costs are $144 for most violations and $169 for school zone violations. You need a valid Texas driver's license and current insurance. You cannot have taken this course for another violation within the last 12 months. CDL holders are not eligible. Complete the course within 90 days of approval and submit your certificate and driving record.

You also have the right to plead not guilty and request a trial. Contact the court at 830-221-4180 if you want to contest the citation.

New Braunfels Traffic Warrants

Missing your appearance date or failing to pay a New Braunfels citation can result in a warrant. Warrants enter the regional system and can come up during any traffic stop or law enforcement contact in Texas. They can also put a hold on your Texas driver's license renewal through the DPS Failure to Appear/Pay program.

If you have a warrant, contact the court at 830-221-4180 to find out how to resolve it. Waiting makes the situation worse. Fees and costs can pile up on top of the original fine, and you risk arrest any time you interact with law enforcement.

Note: Driver's license holds and warrant status stay active until all requirements are fully met. The court will not lift a hold until every document and payment is received and processed.
