Texas Traffic Court Records by County

Texas has 254 counties, and each one has its own set of courts handling traffic cases. Justice of the Peace courts are the main venue for traffic tickets issued outside city limits, on state highways, and in unincorporated areas. Every county in Texas has at least one JP court, and most have several precincts depending on population. County courts at law handle appeals from JP courts and also take on more serious traffic-related criminal cases like DWI.

Municipal courts handle traffic tickets issued within city limits. These are separate from JP courts and are run by individual cities rather than counties. A single county may have dozens of municipal courts depending on how many incorporated cities it contains. Harris County, for example, includes Houston and many other cities, each running their own municipal court.
