Citations issued in Angelina County follow the uniform form requirements of Transportation Code Chapter 543. Section 543.005 requires officers to keep records of all citations they issue. Angelina County is in the 1st and 159th Judicial Districts. Serious traffic crimes like DWI, intoxication assault, or intoxication manslaughter go through the District Court rather than JP court. The vast majority of traffic cases stay at the JP level and are resolved by paying a fine, taking a Driver Safety Course, or requesting deferred disposition. Angelina County JP courts serve several precincts across the county.
Driver Safety Course in Angelina County
You can request a Driver Safety Course (DSC) in Angelina County to get a traffic citation dismissed. File the request on or before your court date with the JP court that issued the citation. If approved, you have 90 days to finish the course and return a certified driving record from Texas DPS. That record costs $10 by mail or $12 online through the Texas DPS website.
DSC is not available for every case. CDL holders are ineligible. So are defendants charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, passing a school bus, or violations in a construction zone with workers present. If you do not finish the course within 90 days, the court can schedule a show cause hearing and potentially issue a warrant.
Deferred disposition is another option in Angelina County. You pay your fine and fees up front, serve a probation period without new violations, and the case gets dismissed. Ask the JP clerk whether your citation qualifies. Self-help resources are available at TexasCourtHelp.gov and through the Texas Justice Court Training Center at tjctc.org.
