Traffic Ticket Options in El Paso County

Traffic violations in El Paso County fall under the Texas Transportation Code. Most moving violations are Class C misdemeanors under Chapter 545. The fine includes a base amount plus state-required court costs. The total is always higher than the base fine printed on the ticket. Review the full amount before deciding how to respond.

Deferred disposition is available for most Class C violations. You plead guilty or no contest, pay the court fee, and serve a probation period. Complete it without a new violation and the case is dismissed. The conviction does not hit your driving record. Ask about this option on or before your court date. Probation is typically 90 to 180 days. El Paso courts usually charge $100 to $150 for this option.

The Driver Safety Course is another dismissal path. Take an approved 6-hour course within 90 days of approval, submit the certificate and a certified DPS driving record to the court, and the ticket is dismissed. This works once per 12-month period. CDL holders, reckless driving, and some other offenses are excluded. The TexasCourtHelp website explains eligibility rules in detail.
