San Jacinto County Traffic Ticket Options

A traffic citation in San Jacinto County gives you a few choices. You can pay the fine and accept the conviction, fight the ticket at a hearing, or seek deferred disposition. Paying the fine is quick but results in a conviction that gets reported to the state and may raise your car insurance rates. Think through your options before making a decision.

Deferred disposition is often available for Class C traffic violations. You enter a plea, pay a fee, and the court holds the conviction for 90 to 180 days. If you have no new violations during that time, the case is dismissed. You must request this option on or before your appearance date. The court will not usually grant it after your scheduled date passes.

The Driver Safety Course is another path to dismissal. Request it from the court on or before your court date. You then have 90 days to complete a state-approved 6-hour driving course. After that, you send the completion certificate and a certified driving record to the court. The ticket is dismissed and no conviction goes on your record. This option is available once every 12 months. It is not open to CDL holders or those cited for reckless driving. The TexasCourtHelp page has more detail on all these options.

Traffic Laws in San Jacinto County

Texas traffic laws apply countywide. Transportation Code Chapter 545 governs how vehicles are operated on Texas roads. Speed limits are set under Sections 545.351 and 545.352. Violations in this chapter make up most of the Class C misdemeanor citations issued in San Jacinto County. Reckless driving falls under Section 545.401 and carries heavier penalties than a standard speeding ticket.

Vehicle equipment rules are in Chapter 547. Citations for things like broken taillights or worn tires come from this chapter. Chapter 543 requires that all traffic citations use the uniform state form and include court information and an appearance date. That information on your ticket tells you exactly where and when to respond.
