Traffic Laws in Bowie County
Texas traffic law applies throughout Bowie County. The Transportation Code governs vehicle operation on public roads. The Texarkana area spans the Texas-Arkansas state line, but Texas courts handle only violations that occur on the Texas side. Reckless driving under Sec. 545.401 is a more serious offense than a routine citation.
Citations must be on the uniform form required by Transportation Code Chapter 543. Section 543.005 requires officers to keep records of all citations. Under Transportation Code Chapter 542, cities in Bowie County can enact traffic regulations that do not conflict with state law. That is why each city has its own municipal court. Driver Safety Course in Bowie County
Eligible defendants can request a Driver Safety Course (DSC) to dismiss a traffic citation in Bowie County. Make this request at or before your court date at the relevant JP court or municipal court. If approved, complete an approved 6-hour course and return a certified Type 3A driving record from Texas DPS within 90 days. The driving record costs $10 by mail or $12 online.
DSC is not available for CDL holders, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, passing a school bus, or construction zone violations with workers present.
