Wichita Falls Traffic Citation Options

When you receive a traffic ticket in Wichita Falls, you have several ways to respond. The option you pick affects your driving record and what you pay. Look at each option before acting.

Paying the fine enters a conviction and gets reported to Texas DPS. Points may go on your record. If keeping your record clean matters, look at the other options first.

Deferred disposition lets you plead guilty or no contest and then serve a probation period. If you meet all requirements, the case is dismissed with no conviction. Request it before your appearance date.

The driving safety course (DSC) is an option for eligible violations. You must request it on or before your appearance date. You need a valid Texas non-commercial driver's license, not taken DSC in the last 12 months, and must not have been cited for speeding 25 mph or more over the limit, over 94 mph, no insurance, leaving the scene of a collision, passing a school bus, or violations in a construction zone with workers present. You plead guilty or no contest, pay $144 in court costs ($169 in a school zone), and complete the course within 90 days. You must also get a 3A certified copy of your Texas driving record from DPS and submit it with your completion certificate.

You can also plead not guilty and request a trial. Contact the court at (940) 761-7880 if you want to go this route. You have that right under Texas law.

Wichita Falls Traffic Warrants

If you miss your Wichita Falls court date or fail to pay a fine, the court can issue a warrant. Active warrants enter the regional system and can come up during any traffic stop or law enforcement contact across Texas. A warrant can also block your Texas driver's license renewal through the DPS Failure to Appear/Pay program.

Contact the court at (940) 761-7880 as soon as possible if you have or suspect an active warrant. The court may let you pay the fine or post a bond without being arrested on the spot, depending on the type of warrant. Do not wait -- fees and consequences grow over time.

Note: Additional late fees and court costs can be added on top of the original fine when a warrant is outstanding. The sooner you resolve it, the less you will owe.
