Your Options for a League City Traffic Citation

Texas law gives you several ways to handle a traffic citation. The choice you make affects your driving record. Take a moment to understand your options before you do anything.

Paying the fine in full is the quickest way to close a case. You can pay online, in person, or by mail. But paying counts as a conviction and gets reported to Texas DPS. It goes on your driving record. If you have prior violations, another conviction may push you toward a license suspension. So it is worth thinking through before you just hit "pay."

Deferred disposition keeps the violation off your record if you complete the probation period. You plead guilty or no contest, pay a fee, and then go without another violation for a set time -- usually 90 days. If you do that, the case is dismissed. No conviction on your record. Request this option through the League City Municipal Court at or before your appearance date.

A driver safety course is another way to avoid a conviction. You must request it before your court date. You plead guilty or no contest, pay court costs and an administrative fee, and then complete a state-approved six-hour course within 90 days. After that, submit your certificate and a copy of your Texas driving record. The case is dismissed. To qualify: valid Texas license, current insurance, no CDL, no DSC used for another ticket in the past 12 months.

Pleading not guilty and requesting a trial is also an option. A judge hears the case. This takes more time but is your legal right under Texas law.

League City Traffic Warrants

Missing your court date or failing to pay can lead to a warrant. The League City Municipal Court issues alias warrants for failure to appear and capias pro-fine warrants for unpaid judgments. Both types can result in arrest and additional fees on top of what you already owed.

You can check warrant status through re:SearchTX or through the city tools at leaguecitytx.gov. If you find a warrant, contact the court to discuss your options. The most common ways to resolve a warrant are paying the full fine, posting a bond, or setting up a resolution plan with the court.

Warrants do not go away. They come up during traffic stops and at license renewal time throughout Texas. The sooner you deal with them, the better your options.

Galveston County Court System

League City is one of several cities in Galveston County. The county has its own court system that handles cases beyond what municipal courts cover. The Galveston County Clerk maintains official records for county courts. You can reach the clerk at (409) 770-5108.

Galveston County also has Justice of the Peace courts that handle traffic citations for stops outside city limits. If your citation came from a county sheriff's deputy or a state trooper outside League City, the JP court is likely where your case is filed. Contact the county to identify the right precinct for your area.

How to Pay League City Traffic Fines

Online payment is available through the League City portal at leaguecitytx.gov. You can pay by card at any time. A convenience fee may apply. This is the fastest way to pay if you just want to close out the case.

In-person payment is accepted at the municipal court during business hours. Cash, check, and card are typically accepted. Call the court to confirm hours and payment methods before visiting.

If you cannot pay the full fine, contact the court before your deadline. Options may include a payment plan depending on the amount owed and your situation. Do not miss your deadline without reaching out -- that is how warrants happen.
